NFL Playoff Scenarios (2026-27)

NFL playoff scenarios for the 2026-27 season are what-if paths through the 14-team bracket: who has the bye, who hosts a Wild Card game, and who can meet after the field is re-seeded. This page explains that format, then lets you run a path in the predictor.

A real clinching scenario needs the remaining schedule and current records. Those numbers are not loaded here, so this page does not name a team that has qualified, and it does not list a win probability. The tools only have placeholder seed labels. Once a name sits in a slot, the opening games are fixed and you can test the rest below. The current slots are on the NFL playoff picture.

How the 14-team field works

Each conference qualifies seven teams. The four division winners are seeded 1 through 4, and the division winner with the best record is the 1 seed, which earns a bye. The next three best records that did not win a division are the wild cards, seeds 5, 6, and 7. When records are tied, the league's tiebreakers decide the order. This site does not apply those tiebreakers, because it does not load results.

Once seven names are in a conference, the opening round is locked. The higher seed hosts. The 2026-27 tools use these games, and the same rules as the predictor:

  • 1 seed: bye, enters in the Divisional Round
  • 2 hosts 7
  • 3 hosts 6
  • 4 hosts 5

Later rounds are not locked. After each round the remaining teams are re-seeded so the highest remaining seed plays the lowest remaining seed. The conference champion meets the other conference's champion in Super Bowl 2027.

Test a scenario

Rename any seed, then click a winner in each game. The share link saves the bracket in the URL. The opening assignment for each seed is listed below.

Bracket mode: teams are re-seeded each round so the highest remaining seed plays the lowest remaining seed.

This tool predicts the playoff bracket only, not the full regular-season playoff picture.

FAQ

What is an NFL playoff scenario?
A playoff scenario is a what-if path through the bracket: who has a bye, who meets in the Wild Card, and who can meet after the field is re-seeded. This 2026-27 page explains that format and lets you run the paths in the predictor.
How does a team clinch a playoff berth?
Each conference qualifies seven teams. The four division winners are seeded 1 through 4, and three wild cards are seeded 5 through 7. When records are tied, the league's tiebreakers decide the order. This site does not run those tiebreakers, because it does not load game results, and it does not report a clinch for any team.
What is locked once the seven seeds are set?
The 1 seed has a bye. The Wild Card round is 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, and 4 vs 5, and the higher seed hosts. Later rounds are re-seeded from whoever is still alive.
Can I test a path where a lower seed keeps winning?
Yes. Rename the seeds if you want real team names, then click a team in each matchup. The bracket re-seeds after every round and names a Super Bowl champion. Nothing is stored on a server.
Does this page list playoff odds?
No. There is no odds feed and no simulated win percentage. This page lists the opening matchup for each seed, and the predictor is where you click through a path. Those are matchups, not probabilities.
